Marilyn Reid
Canmore Marriage Commissioner
Originally from Montreal, Quebec, I was drawn to the splendour and beauty of the Rocky Mountains after college. I travelled out west to complete my Bachelor of Education at the University of Alberta. I have been lucky enough to be a resident of the Bow Valley for over 40 years and recently retired from a successful teaching career of 36 years. I now enjoy spending my time in the beautiful mountains, walking my dog Lucy, and enjoying the company of my family and friends. I am an active community member who regularly volunteers with various local organizations, including wildlife education awareness, music festivals and sports groups.
I love to hike, cross country ski, golf, sing in the choir, bike around town, and attend various shows.
I have a son, two daughters and a young grandson who also live in the area.
I have a keen interest in travel and have been the fortunate person to have visited over 20 countries in the world. I welcome diversity and different cultures and languages. French is my second language and I am attempting Spanish.
Having been a teacher for most of my life, I find my skill set lends itself well to wedding ceremonies. It has been a natural shift for me that I have found enjoyable.
In 2017, I was appointed as a Marriage Commissioner by the Government of Alberta. Performing wedding ceremonies is a delight for me. I am able to share a very significant part of two people’s lives as well as have fun. I enjoy feeling the love that is shared between the couple.
